Tour to former Soviet Nuclear Base with original transcontinental rockets

Excursion to Nuclear Missile Forces Base

Explore the only museum of its kind and experience a guided tour around the facilities that should have been dead and forgotten - The Ballistic Missile Site Museum situated south of Kiev.
The major part of the trip is being a descent 33 meters down to the bottoms of the tunels giving you access to the top secret Soviet Strategic Missile Forces Headquarters. In Launch Control Center you are invited to sit in the Command seat and absorb what the Soviet officers could feel during Cold War, being in charge of nine missiles SS - 22 and last but not least you can touch the button that could have caused the nuclear holocaust (when it was active, which was 20 years ago).
At the end of your tour you will be presented with the most dangerous missile of all - the SS - 18 known as "Satan", which gave Soviet Union a "first strike" advantage over the USA in transcontinental nuclear war. The SS-18 Satan (in NATO coding) or R-36 as Soviet name could reach up to 16 000 km distant targets with accurancy of 200 meters. The speed was up to 7,9 km per second, size of the rocket is impressive as well (lenght 32,20 meters, diameter 3,05 meters and weight 207 tones. More then 10 nuclear warheads could be included in the missile, therefore several targets were endangered with one missile.
No doubt that just very few people left the place without being deeply impressed and moved.
